Aaron Rodgers Wins Third NFL MVP Award & Casually Announces Engagement

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers won his third NFL Most Valuable Player award during the NFL Honors show on Saturday night. However, that news turned about to be a footnote after his induction speech.

Rodgers beat out Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who received four first place votes to 44 for Green Bay’s future Hall of Fame quarterback. He threw 48 touchdown passes to just five interceptions during the 2020 season while leading the Packers to the NFC’s top overall seed.

The Super Bowl XLV MVP joins a five-way tie for second place for most Associated Press Most Valuable Player awards. Rodgers, Tom Brady, Jim Brown, Brett Favre, and Johnny Unitas each have won the award three times.

Newly-minted Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Peyton Manning has the record with five victories.

The 37-year-old Rodgers previously won the MVP during the 2011 and ’14 seasons.

Nonetheless, what Rodgers actually said during the show may end up stealing the show. He accepted his award in a taped segment and casually dropped the news that he got engaged while referencing the craziness of 2020. Then, towards the end of the acceptance speech, Rodgers thanked numerous people including “AJ” and “Pat” (presumably former teammate A.J. Hawk and ex-Colts punter Pat McAfee, whom he talks to weekly on the Pat McAfee Show). Then, he slid in a reference towards his fiancé.

We don’t know who that is officially but Rodgers has been recently linked to actress Shailene Woodley, whom as soon as three days ago was linked to dating the three-time MVP.

Good of the new MVP to try to sneak that one by folks…
